Something Can Be Done in Camden
On
Sat. 30th July The Something Can Be Done About It Band played
in Camden at the Clarence Way Estate for a special open air
event to commemorate the estate and work of Silla Carron.
This lady has transformed this estate restoring a real sense
of community and values into it. A whole afternoon was enjoyed
with the band, local residents having stalls selling homemade
food and entertainment for the children including a dance
show.
The
band played from around 12.45 throughout the afternoon with
singer Mike being the compare for awards presentations, announcements
and a raffle. Residents and a local councellor received copies
of The Way To Happiness booklet and a competition for the
design of their very own cover was launched.
Local
children were invited to join the band on stage to sing and
play drums and percussion. Two local teenage girls sung 'Oh
Happy Day' with a young drummer and two bongo players and
another performed some rapping with Mike.
It was a great afternoon enjoyed by all and is now set to
become an annual event!
The Something Can Be Done About It Band
plays at a Wedding
The Band played at the wedding of Phil Collinson and Parveen
Azam who were married at St. Hill Manor, East Grinstead on
Sat. 17th July. We wish them every happiness in their new
life together.
"Dear Mike,
"On behalf of myself and my wife, we would
both like to personally thank you and your fantastic band
for playing at our wedding on July 17th. Your presence definitely
made a big difference to the whole day.
"I was extremely pleased with both the professionalism
you and your band members displayed, and of course your musical
talents were simply first class.
Your versions of our favourite songs was simply spot on.
"Choosing entertainment for such a special
occasion as a wedding is not easy, and when I look back, I
am very pleased we made such a good decision. You made the
whole process very easy and stress free. From the setups in
the morning, to playing at the event, and the take downs at
the end, all went without a hitch.
"I would happily recommend you, without reservation,
to any of my friends for future events.
Kind Regards,
Philip Collinson"
The Something Can Be Done About It Band
plays with ATAC!
ATAC are the Alliance of Talent Against Crime and the name
given to a series of fundraising concerts organised by registered
charity, CMS (Community Music Skills). CMS is well known and
respected within the music industry for its work with young
people. They focus on installing a sense of self-worth and
respect in young people by offering free tuition in the performing
arts.
The money raised through ATAC is directed into projects
that give vulnerable members of society a chance to learn
about music, dance, drama, IT and production training; guiding
them towards the kind of skills they need for long-term employment.
On Friday 20th May The Something Can Be Done About It Band
performed at the latest ATAC concert at the Fairfield Hotel
in Croydon, Surrey. The concert concentrated on making others
aware of the increasing gun crime in London and the band were
asked to headline the event for a grand finale.
A
special booklet cover for The Way To Happiness®
was designed by the event organisers and these were handed
out with the event programmes during the evening. This breaks
new ground for the The Way To Happiness in London putting
it directly into the hands of people who can make a difference.
It was an event packed with talent featuring Rap, Ragga,
R&B and Gospel Music with even a splash of Poetry! Up
and coming singers and rappers from CMS performed alongside
award winning acts and international stars. It was a thrilling
and entertaining evening but the all important message was
never far away.
At the end of the evening The Something Can Be Done About
It Band quickly had the audience on their feet! They performed,
'Something Good Is Coming Now' and their fun 'Funky Stuff'
song before many of the featured artists rushed to join them
on stage for a joyous finale of 'Oh Happy Day'.
The
event was recorded for BEN TV (Black Entertainment Cable TV)
and radio station, Roots FM.
